Communities In Schools (CIS) helps young people succeed
in school and prepare for life. CIS’s collaborative partnerships
involve school districts, local businesses and community leaders. CIS
identifies preexisting community resources and links them to students.
The organization is the country’s largest stay-in-school network,
serving nearly two million students in 28 states and 2,000 school systems.
In Georgia, CIS operates Performance Learning Centers (PLC) in partnership
with 23 school systems. PLCs are small high schools serving students whose
successes in school are threatened by various life circumstances. PLCs
offer self-paced, student driven courses that encourage project and community
based learning with practical applications through workplace experiences.
